Kuranda, Queensland

We have 2 dogs, a red heeler cross and a Belgian Shepherd cross, both who get big (about 30-45 minute) walks in the bush nearby every day, as well as 4 rainbow lorikeets and 3 eclectus parrots. The walks in the forest are marked with flagging tapes so there is no concern about getting lost. Our house is in the rain forest near Cairns (about 40 minutes by car) and the area is beautiful and green. Gardens normally need little work during the wetter months but the veranda plants need some watering and general simple care once a week. If it has been dry, the sprinklers will have to be used every few days on the garden beds. The village of Kuranda is a tourist destination as well as the Barron Falls nearby, and the Atherton Tablelands about an hours' drive from Kuranda so there is lots to see in the local area. Shopping is about 15 minutes away by car at Smithfield Shopping Center where there are two supermarkets, a K Mart and lots of the usual shopping centre type stores.
There is also a small supermarket in Kuranda. This house sit would be ideal for an outdoor-loving and early-rising couple as birds get fed at around 7:30 and then again at 4:00. The animal care jobs take a maximum of 3 hours, total a day, considerably less if jobs are shared. Read more...
