A responsible individual or couple to look after - and enjoy - a unique southern property in rural South Carolina, not far from the state's capital. We are seeking a house sitter from October 16 to November 9, 2026. Responsibilities include caring for 3 indoor/outdoor cats, watering plants, and replenishing outdoor bird feeders. We are seeking a housesitter from October 16 to November 9, 2026. Our home sits on 70+ private acres, just 35 minutes from downtown Columbia, SC. We're less than 2 hours from downtown Charleston, SC, and less than 3 hours from Asheville, NC. Our property includes a completely private 8-acre pond with a small dock, plus hiking trails within and beyond our secluded pine/hardwood forest. The house is spacious with lots of glass and beautiful views. It features 2 large bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, a large eat-in kitchen, a full dining room, 2 sitting (living) rooms, 2 office spaces, and a laundry room. We have a huge back patio with a covered dining/grill area, plus a large front porch with rocking chairs that overlook the pond. The pond is 16 feet deep at its deepest point and stocked with bass and bream. Our 3 house cats use a cat door to come and go at their leisure during daylight hours. They are kept inside at night. Common wildlife sightings include deer, raccoons, possums, wild turkeys, visiting waterfowl, a variety of songbirds, raptors, and owls, and occasional foxes. The home has high-speed fiber optic cable, satellite TV, a whole-house generator (in case of power failure), and a fully functional security system. During the summer months, our vegetable garden produces organic tomatoes, assorted peppers, Asian eggplants, squash, beets, etc., that you are encouraged to harvest for your enjoyment. It has a fully automated watering system. We maintain several hummingbird and bird feeders, which we keep filled during the summer months. Non-local house-sitters may use one of our vehicles. If you enjoy nature and solitude, this is the sit for you! Our property (75 acres) is full of wildlife and includes a large and completely private deepwater pond with a dock. Our half-mile-long driveway winds through the woods; we often see white-tail deer as we drive in and out. The house has many large windows, with no curtains to obscure the view.
