About This House Sit
We are EJ (Emily Jane) and David. Emily Jane heads up the charity, Sussex MS Centre, while David is a writer and lecturer.
We live close to some lovely places like Sheffield Park (NT), Charleston (where the Bloomsbury set lived) and Farleys Farm where the photographer, Lee Millar, lived and Picasso and Man Ray visited. The Sussex coast is 12 miles away and encompasses Brighton, the Seven Sisters and Eastbourne, while the South Downs Way passes nearby. There are many options for outings, but we would like Stanley and Oliver not to be left for too long (though we do have a timer food machine that can be used if need be).
Our cats, Stanley and Oliver, are delightful characters with big personalities who love being brushed and enjoy human interaction. Because they are nearly 21 years old we very rarely leave them alone, which means one of us staying at home and we haven't had a holiday together since 2022! However, in October this year we both need to attend a family funeral in Scotland so we are looking for some halp for the days listed. Maybe you could help us again if this works for all of us!!
Stanley and Oliver are house cats, though they do go out into the back garden.
Both need medication in the shape of daily pills. Easy to give. Blood pressure pills for Stan (black act) and Famotodine pills for Oliver for heartburn/indigestion.
Because Oliver is in remission from diabetes (ended 2 years ago), their food also needs to be kept topped up regularly so they can graze. They both have renal conditions which are stable. They drink a lot of water and often stand by the water recepticle they want to drink from which means they are asking for you to refresh that water! Maybe twice or thrice for each bowl a day!
While they are very easy going, Stanley is anxious in the dark, and often needs to be supervised when going to the toilet (or else he pees on the bed – he may not behave like this with strangers, but who knows? It's best to be warned). Sometimes he prefers to pee outside. Almost always when using his litter tray he aims badly, which means that pee needs to be soaked up with paper towels from the mat on which the litter tray sits.
We live in a comfortable family home with a garden near Lewes in East Sussex, UK. Our home is fully accessible with a gentle ramp leading up to the front door but parking is on the road and we have to walk up a passage way to to reach the front garden gate. The room in which you would stay is on the ground floor, and there is a wet room next to it.
We have a charming front and back garden.
Our nearest town is Lewes, about four miles away (twelve minutes by car, with an irregular bus service). Lewes is a beautiful historic town famous for its dramatic Bonfire Night celebrations, the 1264 Battle of Lewes, and its well-preserved medieval architecture. We buy all provisions there but our small village has a great village shop and pub.
